Winter Solstice
Updated: Dec 30, 2021
The Winter Solstice is a time of great celebration, in ancient times it marked the Sun's triumph over darkness, rebirth and the return of the Sun to the people. Our ancestors knew the importance of this time and were much more connected to Earth and her cycles than we are today. The wise women and men of the community watched the movements of the Sun and Stars closely, for they knew that any changes, would surely affect life on Earth.

The wise women and men of ancient times kept a close watch on the Sun on the days prior to the Winter Solstice. They knew that three days before the Solstice, the Sun would reach its lowest point on the horizon in the northern hemisphere. The Sun stays at its lowest point for two days and rises on the third. Since our ancestors had a close connection to Nature they did not take for granted the movements of the heavenly bodies. They acknowledged how necessary the Sun's energy is to life, how all of nature and our very own bodies are dependent on the Sun’s the existence. The community would begin drumming and chanting and dancing, asking the Sun to come back. Asking the Sun to bring back it's warmth and light, so that life may continue. The wise women and men would continue to watch the Sun and on the third day, when the Sun would appear just a bit higher on the horizon, a huge celebration would break out in the community. The Sun has once again triumphed over darkness and will continue its reign in the sky. Growing its strength each day to the Summer Solstice.
The Sun is also reminding us that winter is the time of withdrawal from the outer world, a time of introspection and contemplation. Days are short and nights are long during this season, giving us space to reflect. It is the moment to let go of all the obstacles that stand in your way, so that you can manifest what you truly want in your life. As we use this time to release all that we no longer need, we can also put into the ethers the thoughts and ideas that we want to manifest. Now is the time to go within and clear out old patterns, and thoughts and feelings of lack and powerlessness. Take time to go within and get clear about the experiences that you want to bring into your life. Visualize these experiences, and ask to receive all that you need to accomplish your dreams. Then give thanks to the Universe for helping you to manifest your dreams and desires.
Allow yourself time this winter for deep rest, reflection and dreaming. Connect with the cycles of Earth and allow those energies to help you on your path.
